The Business Website Planning Checklist

The Business Website Planning Checklist

A good website starts long before any design or code. The businesses that end up with a site that actually works for them are usually the ones that planned it properly first. Use this free checklist to get clear on what you need before you build — whether you work with us, another team, or build it yourself.

1. Get Clear on the Goal

  • [ ] Define the single most important action you want visitors to take (call, book, buy, enquire)
  • [ ] Identify who your website is really for
  • [ ] Write down the top three questions customers always ask you
  • [ ] Decide how you will know the site is working (enquiries, calls, sales)
  • 2. Plan Your Pages

  • [ ] Home — what you do and who it is for, at a glance
  • [ ] Services or products — clear explanations, not jargon
  • [ ] About — why customers should trust you
  • [ ] Contact — every realistic way to reach you
  • [ ] Proof — examples of work, or a clear explanation of your approach
  • 3. Prepare Your Content

  • [ ] A short, clear description of your business
  • [ ] A description of each service or product
  • [ ] Real photos or professional visuals
  • [ ] Your logo and any brand colours
  • [ ] Correct contact details and business hours
  • 4. Think About Trust

  • [ ] Make your contact information easy to find on every page
  • [ ] Show genuine examples of your work where possible
  • [ ] Keep messaging honest — no invented claims or statistics
  • [ ] Ensure the site looks consistent with your brand everywhere
  • 5. Cover the Essentials

  • [ ] The site must work well on mobile phones
  • [ ] Pages should load quickly
  • [ ] Every button and link should do something useful
  • [ ] There should be an obvious next step on every page
  • 6. Plan for After Launch

  • [ ] Decide who will keep the content up to date
  • [ ] Plan how you will drive visitors to the site
  • [ ] Set a reminder to review what is and is not working
